What goes into the estimate

How the calculation works

Food and litter: order cost ÷ days it lasts × 365 ÷ 12. Annual veterinary care: yearly amount ÷ 12. Insurance and other monthly costs are added directly. Order durations can include decimal days. The optional quantity helper divides an order’s quantity by household use per day; both quantities must use the same unit. Totals are calculated before rounding for display. All inputs describe the whole household; the number of cats only changes the per-cat average.

Spending, savings and setup

The monthly budget adds routine spending and your reserve contribution. The first-year budget is 12 months of routine spending, plus 12 reserve contributions and one-time setup. Reserve contributions remain savings until you spend them; setup is counted once.

What the planner cannot include for you

Enter any adoption fees, travel care, medications, replacement equipment or other costs relevant to your household. Blank entries are excluded. Prices, food use and veterinary needs can change; this is an arithmetic estimate from your entries. Changing currency does not convert amounts or fetch prices.

A few common questions

Does this use average cat care prices?

No. Enter your own prices and how long each food or litter order lasts. Blank costs are excluded so you can see which parts of the budget still need an estimate.

Do I multiply prices by the number of cats?

Enter food, litter and other costs for your whole household. The planner divides the household budget by the number of cats to show a per-cat average; it does not multiply your entries again.

Will a reserve cover every veterinary bill?

The reserve is an amount you choose to set aside, not a prediction of future bills. Veterinary needs and insurance coverage vary; review your own situation and policy.
